An ideal icefall for an introduction to ice climbing
Located between la Grave and les Fréaux by the Romanche river, the 'Pylône' icefall is one of the great classics of the area, ideal for an introduction to this activity. It is a nice wide wall and relatively short, which makes it possible to set up several ropes on the first pitch, as well as the possibility to complete several climbs. The rest of the icefall does not have any specific technical difficulties. This one-day introduction will also give us the opportunity to review our gear and learn a few techniques in order to climb safely and with self-confidence. This first contact with the fascinating world of ice climbing will undoubtedly be successful! Grade: 3+ Vertical: +250m/+820ft (+70m/+229ft of ice climbing)
