A beautiful 2000 meter ski descent down a wild glacier
Skiing down the Grand Sablat glacier in Alpe d'Huez is somehow reminiscent of the Vallée Blanche in Chamonix, for the beauty of the landscapes and the importance of the vertical descent. The start of this great ski day is located at Pic Blanc (3300m / 10,826ft), at the top of the ski lifts of Alpe d'Huez. From there, we can enjoy a 360° breathtaking panorama over the surrounding massifs, such as the Écrins. We immediately set foot onto the Grand Sablat glacier and enjoy the descent on the wide open glacial slope, combining various options in a wild environment. The last part of this friendly descent leads us to the small mountain village of Clavans, located in the Ferrand valley. It will be the final point of this beautiful journey across the Grandes Rousses massif. A taxi will drive us back to la Grave.
You occasionally ski in the backcountry. You are comfortable with all snow conditions and steeper slopes don't scare you.
You are able to ski multiple complex descents and manage your energy throughout the day and are not afraid to hike up short climbs with skis on your backpack or with skins.
