HOW DIFFICULT WILL THE TRIP BE?

WHAT LEVEL OF PHYSICAL FITNESS DO I NEED?

Advanced

You are in very good physical shape. You are able to easily climb and ski all day with a backpack between 10-15kg, depending on the technical level of the trip.

WHAT WILL HAPPEN ON EACH DAY?

Day 1

From the Dôme de la Lauze (3568m / 11,706ft), located at the top of the ski lifts of la Grave-la Meije and the Girose glacier, we start our journey skiing down a magnificent steep south facing descent to the Selle mountain hut (2673m / 8,769ft), with a descent close to 1000 vertical meters (3,280ft). From there, we traverse to a bench on the glacier de la Selle. We skin up a steeper slope to the Col du Replat (3335m / 10,941ft). We rappel our way to the other side of the col to reach a long east facing slope, and ski down to the Etançons valley. The impressive south face of la Meije stands in front of our eyes. We pass by the Chatelleret mountain hut (2232m / 7,322ft), and then skin up to the Promontoire mountain hut (3092m / 10,144ft), nestled into the south face of la Meije, where we will spend the night.

Day 2

From the Promontoire refuge, we climb up to the Brèche de la Meije (3357m / 11,013ft), which allows us access to the north face of la Meije. After crossing the bergschrund, we enjoy skiing part way down the incredible glacier of la Meije, at the foot of the impressive north face of la Meije. We reach the base of the Serret du Savon couloir (3399m / 11,151ft), and climb it with our skis on our backpacks. Once at the top, a second ski descent across the Tabuchet glacier brings us to the Aigle mountain hut (3450m / 11,318ft), which is perched on a rocky outcrop in a stunning high mountain environment.
